EOSC4Cancer Final Conference

On Thursday, May 22nd, EOSC4Cancer consortium members and project partners gathered for the EOSC4Cancer final conference in Barcelona, which centered around sustainability. Over 100 EOSC4Cancer community members were present in person and online.

The day consisted of many presentations centering the EOSC4Cancer progress and other alignments. During the first part of the day, all project Work Packages provided an overview of their work, main achievements during the project lifetime, and future outlook. These presentations of EOSC4Cancer project work focused on how to sustain our outcomes, from data models to technical infrastructures to stakeholder communities. Irini Kessissoglou from the European Commission held a talk on the European Health Data Space (EHDS) for secondary use, while Angelo Solimini from the European Commission gave a presentation on the EU Mission on Cancer, both main priorities of the EOSC4Cancer work. The first part of the meeting concluded with two presentations, the first an update on TEHDAS 2 by Elinca Drakvik, and the second by Anna Bigas on CIBERONC, an initiative working towards the “Spanish Cancer Data Hub”.

The second part of the day focused on upcoming and current EU Cancer Data projects, getting to know the builders and connectors of upcoming infrastructures. The forthcoming projects UNCAN-CONNECT (by Kadi-Liis Velmann and Anne-Mari Anton Willmore), CANDLE (by Lifang Liu), EU-CIP (by Harald Wagener), and CancerWatchJA (by Gijs Geleijnse) were highlighted through these presentations. Updates were also given on existing initiatives, namely Cancer Genomics in the 1+MG and GDI project presented by Marco Morelli, and the European Cancer Imaging Initiative (EUCAIM) by Leonor Cerda.

The last wave of presentations looked into the future of Cancer Digital Data through the lenses of stakeholders. Josephine Mosset of Cancer Patients Europe gave a presentation on Building a Patient-Centered Future, followed by a talk on Driving Personalised Survivorship by Oriana Soursa of EUCAYAs-NET. Some updates on the EOSC Health Data Task Force and the EOSC Federation were given by Ignacio Blanquer of Universitat Politècnica de València. Finally, Niklas Blomberg of the Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) highlighted Outcomes from the IHI public-private partnership, and Erika Schirghuber of Roche presented Challenges and Opportunities in Multimodal Datasets.

A big thank you to all our speakers and attendees for this fruitful exchange and contribution towards a good handover!
